Snowdonia is the mecca of scrambling and climbing in the UK. With over 5 different types of rock within an hour’s drive from Llanberis, you can learn to sport climb on limestone one day, enjoy the views towards Ireland from the sea cliffs of Gogarth the next day, and still tackle a classic scramble to the summit of Tryfan the next! Ibex Mountain Guides are experienced instructors and coaches and we look forward to helping you realise your climbing dreams.

When to go

All year-round fun is to be had in Snowdonia! There’s always something to do, whatever the weather.

How difficult is it?

You can choose a challenge to suit your ability. Never scrambled before? No worries, we can start you off nice and easy on some classic trips in Ogwen. Mostly done it all? Let’s search out those esoteric gems that Snowdonia has plenty of!

How fit do I need to be?

You need to be able to walk for about 5-6 hours and carry a ruck sack weighing over 5kg. Over the course of the day, your ascent rate should be around 300m/hour.

What equipment do I need?

For scrambling/climbing and summer walking a B2 boot, which is slightly stiff will be ideal. Light trousers, wind/waterproofs both top and bottoms. Warm hat and gloves. Gaiters. Rock shoes. Harness (belay device, 4 screwgate karabiners, one 120cm sling and 2 prusik loops), helmet, telescopic poles. Ruck Sack to fit it all. Don’t forget your camera/smartphone! Though make sure it’s in a waterproof case. Ibex Mountain Guides can provide you with the items in italics.

How much?

For a guided trip with Ibex Mountain Guides, our daily rate is £220 on a 1:1 basis plus £20 per extra person. This fee is for guiding services and safety equipment. If you book with us on a Mont Blanc or Matterhorn/Eiger trip, the training weekend in North Wales has a rate of £250/day on a 1:1 ratio plus £20 per extra person, with a maximum ratio of 1:4 on day one and 1:2 on day two.
